Q: How does Social Gifting help the crafters?

A: As the crafters engage in crafting, it enables them to feel empowered through gaining strength and independence by earning a passive income, which also positively impacts their mental wellness. Working allows them to become givers instead of solely being beneficiaries. Join us to empower them!

Q: Can we give direct donations to the crafters?

A: At Social Gifting, we want to teach the crafters how to fish instead of providing them with fish.

In 2018, around 70% of people with disabilities are unemployed. Social Gifting focuses on social-emotional support by providing these crafters with work opportunities. We believe that crafting is a form of therapy, and it can empower them by increasing their confidence, improving their fine motor skills and helping them find meaning in life.

Hence, we do not encourage direct cash donations to the crafters, but we teach them new skills and help them sell the crafts they made.

You can contribute by volunteering to teach them a new craft, or by buying their crafts, or tokens of appreciation such as grocery vouchers. You can also help to spread the word to others to support the crafters and social enterprises.

Q: What is the commitment like as a Social Gifting volunteer?

A: We have a hybrid volunteering system of one physical and one virtual session each month.
